About the Artist:
John Schettino’s art reflects on cultural and geographic landscape and the ways those things sometimes intersect with history, memory, and erasure.
As a student and young artist in the late 70’s and early 80’s Schettino attended the Cooper Union, lived on St. Marks place, and enjoyed the pleasure of Gem Spa egg creams, along with numerous other local offerings; dive bars, Ukrainian diners, and dark cafes, most of which are long since disappeared.
He hopes this little piece of art will be some kind of small contribution to preserving what has been one of the East Villages great local treasures.
